Regenerative Agriculture

“Whenever we try to pick out anything by itself

we find it hitched to everything else in the universe”

John Muir – Naturalist

Today, conventional chemical agriculture practices are responsible for almost half of the greenhouse emissions. Chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and conventional tilling practices are undermining our soil’s health, costing us 20 billion every year for replenishment of lost nutrients.

Regenerative agriculture aims to create farm systems that imitate natural ecosystems and work in harmony with nature, improving the quality of life for all living creatures.

A regenerative organic farming goes beyond sustainability. The goal is not only to maintain resources to initial levels, but to also improve them. Regenerative agriculture goes beyond organic farming. While we produce chemical free nutritious food, the focus is on the regeneration of our natural resources giving attention to our soil’s health, animal welfare and social fairness.

Within a regenerative farming approach we aim to increase the diversity of plant species of the site and introduce only adapted varieties to the system such as endemic trees and heirloom seeds for vegetables. By completely refraining from the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, we increase the populations of beneficial microbes in our soil, which in their turn help feed our plants and make them healthier and more robust. Overall soil structure improves increasing water retention capacity and therefore water available to our plants.

In a nutshell, when we design an orchard, a vegetable or a herb garden  with regenerative agriculture principles, we aim to regenerate topsoil, improve the water management of the site, increase its biodiversity and improve the system’s overall resilience to climate change.
