Soil Amendment

Soil health is linked to the health of our food system.

When we implement a healthy soil strategy, we help build organic matter, limit tillage, implement crop rotation, introduce cover crops, emit the usage of synthetic inputs and as an outcome, increase yield, promote biodiversity and establish the system’s stability.

When there is a further need to boost soil fertility there are certain amendments that can be implemented. In these cases, a soil amendment strategy can be designed that includes the implementation of compost, mature manure, compost teas and plant products such as dried raw seaweed.

According to the site, a composting system can be designed and implemented including methods such as compost heaps, chicken tractors and vermicomposting. By depending on compost to increase fertility, the land’s dependence on costly synthetic inputs is slashed down, diminishing the organic scraps that would otherwise end up to landfill from the site’s maintenance. When compost is utilized as a form of nourishing our plants, soil is infused with a diversity of microorganisms and nutrients, promoting health plant growth and development.

A compost tea fertilization program can also be designed and put into action creating biologically active, nutrient rich natural fertilizers for the plants. Through the process of compost tea, a mixture rich in beneficial microbes and readily available nutrients is fed to the plants, ameliorating life in the soil and on the surfaces of the plants.
